Time for an update.

I have reviewed and ordered this book as a text for my Typography students. It is very encompassing and thorough, providing many examples of typefaces and type usage. I probably would have given this review 5 stars if this was not the same publication that appeared in 1992. This book is worth keeping refreshed. The authors have gone to great lengths to provide excellent "contemporary" examples, so after 8 years it is time to address the issue of contemporary. Still, it is the best I could find out of many, and have adopted it for my course.

To those who wants to know more about typography, this book teaches you enough required knowledge so you can study more advanced subjects. It offers a brief but useful introduction on the history of typography. I'll recommend this book to anyone who is interested in typography.

Kid-Friendly NNAT2 Level A Test Prep

This workbook includes 200 practice questions for the NNAT2 Level A test, which is a test to determine whether your child is a candidate for a gifted level curriculum. This workbook is geared for children in the preschool and kindergarten levels. Parents are to work with their children to ensure they understand how to listen, follow directions and focus on the task at hand.

The actual NNAT2 Level A test is for kindergarten. It is a 30 minute test with 48 questions. All of the questions are nonverbal. Children are tested on their ability to recognize similarities and differences in shapes and patterns. All the questions are in blue, yellow and white, rather than a variety of colors, so that children can see the differences and similarities of the patterns more readily.

To add to the incentive to complete the workbook, children who finish the workbook will become members of the Gifted Detective Agency and will be awarded a personal certificate. Parents can decide whether to require the completion of all answers before the bestowal of the certificate.

Answer keys and directions are in the back of the book.

Fun way for child to learn and adult to interact with child

Matching pictures, shapes and patterns, working out what doesn’t belong and why, and learning to be a terrific detective should provide plenty of fun for adults and children to share. The images are big and bright, and the questions clearly explained. But the answers will require real thought and concentration on the part of the child—invaluable skills whether aiming for the NNAT2 test or just learning to learn.

Words to be read with the questions are provided separately, and an answer key gives an immediate way to see what was right and wrong. Plus readers are invited to visit a website for more free questions. With the Gifted Detective Agency certificate at the end, the book should provide a fun and stimulating way to learn for any child, and a great way for an adult to help the child learn.

I received this book as a gift in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This book is an excellent workbook to help kindergarten-age children in concepts and designs. It was created for the purpose of gifted and talented test preparation and will truly enhance a child's development and test a child's skills. It is intended for kindergarten or preschool aged children, but it may work for development in older or even younger children. There are over 200 practice questions, along with different activities that will help child development. It would be a purposeful book for homeschoolers or those gifted students getting ready for regular school. I look forward to using some of the concepts in my education of others.

Covers birds throughout the world

This encyclopedia is thorough in its descriptions and photographs of birds throughout the world. However, the text may have tried to take on too much, as it left out several birds in various regions. Several game birds of North America were neglected. Those included the white-tailed ptarmigan, the spruce or Franklin's grouse (aka: fool hen), mountain quail, Gambel's quail, bobwhite, scaled quail, ruffed grouse, sharp-tailed grouse, both the blue and green winged teals, just to mention a few. Also the Chukar was identified as the rock partridge.

Nevertheless, there is a great deal of scientific information for those studying birds around the world, their habitats, habits, nomenclature, and illustrations.
